Survey on the Job Market Experiences of Political Scientists

The July Chart of the Month focuses on the job market experiences of political scientists during the 2017-2018 academic year. The data were collected by APSA in a Job Market Experiences Survey administered online from June 6th to July 5th, 2018. A plurality of survey respondents (39.9%) applied for between 1 and 25 positions during the year, with applicants particularly interested in tenure-track positions and post docs. Location and professional fit were among the most important factors considered by job candidates when searching for a position, with the latter considered the most important factor of all.
