Short Course Highlight: Political Science in the Public Arena: Communication Strategies for Scholars

This short course consists of a series of training sessions on communicating political science to audiences ranging from community groups to members of Congress. The morning overview session will discuss opportunities for political scientists to share their work with non-academic audiences and examine the value of this public engagement; provide tips on communicating academic research in clear and concise formats; and discuss general strategies for communication in various contexts, including writing op-eds, engaging with journalists, riefing policymakers, and using Twitter. At the series of short sessions that follow, political scientists who regularly engage in the public arena will provide in-depth training on specific types of engagement, such as blogging, media interviews, and policy briefings.
