The primary purpose of the Fund for Latino Scholarship is to encourage and support the recruitment, retention and promotion of Latino/a political scientists. A secondary goal is to support research on Latino/a politics.
Zoila Ponce de León Seijas: The support provided by the Fund helped me to cover the costs of my flight from Lima, Peru, where I am currently conducting fieldwork, to the city of San Francisco in order to attend the 2015 APSA Annual Meeting. Attending the APSA Annual Meeting was an invaluable experience since it increased my exposure to the academic community. I was able to present my own work in a panel, which allowed me to get important feedback as well as network with people working on similar topics to mine. Moreover, attending other panels, I became more familiarized with the work of colleagues who share similar research interests. My experience at the conference proved to be incredibly productive. I am very grateful to the Fund for enabling my trip to San Francisco.
The 2016 Fund for Latino Scholarship Recipients will be announced in July 2016.
