APSA Ralph Bunche Fund: Help Underrepresented Students Excel

The Ralph Bunche Endowment Fund helps APSA ensure the continuity of the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute (RBSI). RBSI introduces undergraduate students from under represented racial/ethnic groups or students interested in broadening participation in political science and pursuing scholarship on issues affecting under-represented groups to the world of graduate study and to encourage application to PhD programs.

Your donation to RBSI helps enhance participant writing, research, and analytical skills to increase competitiveness in the application and financial aid process for graduate school; expose participants to the significant questions in the discipline and profession of political science; introduce participants to leading political scientists; and educate participants about political science career opportunities, encouraging their application to doctoral programs in political science.

Nyron Crawford, a 2008-2009 RBSI alumni, shared the impact that participating in the program had on his professional development:

I owe a great debt to RBSI for setting me on a professional-academic course that has been rich with opportunity and unending adventure. I know that, if not for Bunche, I could not have imagined living the life of the mind – i.e. as a political scientist, as a scholar of race, or as the professor of record. In no small way, RBSI has ensured that I, along with so many other talented scholars who proudly declare themselves “Bunchees,” could embark on the same, if not improved, American odyssey that defined the life of the program’s namesake, Dr. Ralph J. Bunche. I am incredibly grateful for that summer experience at Duke, for its investments in my success, and for the talented friends and memories that the program has gifted to me.  — Nyron Crawford
