APSA Council Balloting Opens July 19

Next week, balloting to elect new APSA Council members and Officers will begin. This upcoming election will mark the first election under the new APSA bylaws, which were approved in a vote by the full membership in October 2016. Under these bylaws, the slate of officers and council members recommended by the APSA Nominating Committee are formally elected in an electronic ballot by the entire membership, rather than in person at the annual business meeting held in conjunction with the annual meeting. Consequently, all members can now  participate in the APSA Council election.

The Nominating Committee’s slate of Council and officer nominees is available for your review. The committee made its decisions after careful deliberation and consideration for the diversity of the field and the varied interests of political scientists. No additional nominees by petition were submitted.

As indicated in the new bylaws, the election process will allow voters to vote “for” (yes), “against” (no), or abstain for each position. Candidates must receive more “for” votes than “against” to be elected to the APSA Council or officer role for which they have been nominated; thus, even unopposed candidates must be affirmed by a majority of votes. A quorum of 10% of the APSA membership will be required for the election to be valid.

APSA members will receive an email on July 19, 2017 from elections@vote-now.com, a secure balloting system. This email will include your personal registration code and a personalized link for you to cast your ballot. Balloting will run through August 18, 2017.
